Dr. Harish Shetty was appointed a consultant at the Sevadhan De-addiction center and the National Addiction Research Center [Govt. of India funded] in 1989. Having immense experience in the field of Disaster and Mental health, he worked with the victims of the Marathwada Earthquake and the Kandla cyclone. On account of his contributions in the area of Disaster he has been appointed as a member of an expert committee to initiate a course in Disaster Management at the Indira Gandhi Open University New Delhi [IGNOU]. Dr Shetty has also been identified as one of the 17 young mental health workers by the World Health Organization. He has founded " Maitri" an organization that works with families affected by mental illness. Dr. Shetty also has been keenly contributing in the area of School Mental Health and has conducted more than 300 workshops for parents, teachers, principals and students. He has been strongly advocating the need to build mental health systems in schools. Dr Shetty has several National and International Publications to his credit.
