Common Cures

KEEP COUGH AND COLDS AWAY WITH ONIONS.

The story goes that the Jews love the onion so much, they named a city after it sometime in the BC era! The truth of that story is still to be determined but there is no doubt about the onion's therapeutic properties. It’s a great all-round tonic but can also be used as a preventive against colds and bronchitis and a remedy for them. Mix equal amounts of onion juice and honey. Have a few spoonfuls during the day.

RAISINS AS A CURE FOR CHRONIC CONSTIPATION

Raisins have been used as food from very ancient times, some say since the Greek and Roman ages. Rich in carbohydrates, they contain much more sugar than grapes; therefore diabetics are warned off this particular use. Raisins soaked in a glassful of drinking water for at least 24 hours is a great remedy for chronic constipation. Drink the water as well.

Emergency Stoppers For Uncontrollable Hiccups

Hiccups have this strange tendency to manifest themselves at the most crucial moments in your life-- like during a business meeting, at a cocktail party, or on a first date with a new love interest!

Well, here are some home remedies to stop hiccups. See which ones work for you:
• Hold your breath for as long as possible.
• Cover each ear with your fingers and press gently for a few minutes.
• Bend over the waist and drink a glass of water in that bending position.
• Eat ginger.
• Suck on a slice of fresh lemon.
• Swallow a teaspoon of vinegar.
• Hold a paper bag over you mouth, then blow into it and breathe in the air from the bag.
• Fill a teacup with cold water until 2/3 full and place an inverted teaspoon inside (i.e. the handle in the cup) and drink normally. You’ll be concentrating so hard on the spoon not falling out of the cup that it cures your hiccups!
• Hold your nose, plug your ears and drink water through a straw for 20 seconds
• Swallow a teaspoon of sugar and then drink water.
• Burn the outer covering of the cardamom seed and chew on it.

The Best Cure For A Sore Throat

You might have heard this a million times, but let us say it again. The best cure for a sore throat is to mix half teaspoon of salt in a glass of lukewarm water and gargle with the solution for 15-30 seconds. This will help you overcome a sore throat within a day. Repeat three to four times daily or even more often if needed. The sooner you opt for this treatment when you get the sore throat the better.
