MORE INVOLVED
How do you
go about creating an Interesting Classroom Environment for your students?
No doubt you are bogged down by a grueling curriculum schedule, but we
have listed some ideas on how you can connect more personally with your
students and make their time spent in the classroom a fulfilling
experience.
A smile
speaks a million words. Greet your students with a smile.
It’s a good idea to learn their names though keeping track can sometimes
be difficult. Try etching at least one name a day into your memory.
On the first day of class introduce yourself. Also outline your
expectations from the students and punctuate your introduction with some
witty anecdotes. First impressions do make a difference.
While correcting an exam paper or an assignment, include your comments
so that the students receive an honest and encouraging feedback. It need
not be elaborate but to the point.
As the students complete an assignment in class, it is a good idea to
circulate and converse with the students on an individual basis.
Incorporate a healthy dose of humour into your lessons.
Turn the classroom into a hub of information and learning by displaying
charts, graphs, thought for the day etc. and entrust the students with the
responsibility of updating the display.
Try and observe the behaviour of students and build a rapport with your
students.
Be accessible and approachable to your students.
Minimize visual distractions for easily distracted students seated near
the front of the room
Provide academic aides to help visual learners such as charts,
illustrations, photography, sketches and symbols.
