“So then I guess it’s fair to say that you believe in karma instead of God?” remarked a friend of mine to end one of our many pseudo-intellectual discussions. And of course she was right. Religion and faith intertwined work brilliantly for most people. Maybe a little knowledge about karma and a closer look at things and events in your life, or someone else’s for that matter, could reinforce your belief in the karmic principles.

Karma, as most people know it, is one’s own doing -- something cyclical and related to nirvana. In today’s pop culture driven world, we can sum it up as a ‘what goes around comes around’ phenomenon. It is the simple understanding that a person’s actions and experiences in the present will determine the series of actions and events that he will experience in the future. A comprehensive understanding of the notion of karma is said to be instrumental in helping individuals cope with negative sentiments such as anger, rage, hate, jealousy.

As elementary as it sounds, the thought that every good, nice or pleasant thing that you ever did will come back to you and everything not so good you ever did would also be cast unto you is highly satisfying and unnerving, respectively.

Experts say that the fear of whatever one does (largely actions or thoughts that are perceived as being negative) coming back to haunt you is enough for people to bend their thinking towards a more positive note. So the next time you find yourself getting all feverish about something or someone that really gets your goat, just think of every nice thing you did and how it’ll all come back to you in the end. It really does help to calm you down!

It is quite common to confuse spirituality with religion – many in fact use the words interchangeably. Thus, many people who are irreligious (agnostic or atheist) reject spirituality in their lives too, which is unfortunate since spirituality can be a valuable anchor in life. Spirituality does not require an individual to believe in magic, fairies, miracles and fables. Here are some of the ways in which an individual may pursue a spiritual existence:

Increase one’s knowledge and wisdom: Knowledge is not always accompanied by wisdom. While one involves a mere bookish, academic approach to life, wisdom comes from experience, deep thought and reflection. True spirituality can thus come from reflecting upon knowledge so that it leads to wisdom.

Serve others: A truly spiritual person knows that the ego is but an unnecessary millstone around one’s neck, hampering one’s true advance upon the path of spirituality and humility. Serving others, performing menial chores, and doing common household tasks with no shame and with the intention of helping others is also a path to spirituality, as practiced, in fact, by Mahatma Gandhi.

Improve your relationship with the universe: The concept of ‘pantheism’ (as opposed to atheism) subscribes to the belief that the universe itself is God. Getting in sync with nature, taking time out to appreciate its beauty, and being aware of the influence of natural phenomena on our lives are small ways to achieve a more spiritual existence.

Be healthy: Our bodies are the most sophisticated instruments we will ever have access to. It is our responsibility to keep them healthy and supple, without loading them with artificial health-inducers. Science has upheld the benefits of Ayurveda, Pranic healing and Yoga. Experiment with these natural routes to health to gain a more spiritual existence.

Be quiet: We live in a world that is full of noise, pollution and constant distractions that take us away from our spiritual path. The next time you’re stressed, try meditation instead of turning on the TV or loud music. Simple meditation techniques – not the yogi-on-a-mountain variety – can be practiced even in the train on the way to work or while sitting at one’s desk.

Channeling is a skill that can be developed by anyone with the desire and determination to reach upwards and grow spiritually. It does not take years of special training but does require the ability to silence one's thoughts and the ability to trust and surrender. Channeling can be defined as the communication of information to or through a person (the channel or the medium), from a power or other supernatural entity outside the mind and power of the channel. It forms an essential part of the belief systems and rituals of many religions, such as Shamanism, Voodoo and more.

Channeling: Not the same as meditating
While meditating, one can connect with their higher self or guides their own growth without having to channel them but instead can communicate with them. Meditation can also be used as an effective source for relaxation and rejuvenation or for healing to do visualization exercise, etc. On the other hand, in channeling you primarily indulge in providing counseling, teaching and healing for the benefits of yourself and the others. It is a sharing of energies, a creation of new energies, and a mirroring process wherein the channeler, the audience and even the being that is channeled are receiving much from the process. Channeling is like a triangle: two energies connecting, coming together, creating a third through their relationship. It is for those people who wish to add to, and develop, the wisdom of their higher selves.

Types of Channeling

  • Concious Voice Channeling
In 'conscious voice channelling,' the channeller silences his or her mind and then connects to the energy' of the source being channeled. The source uses the vocabulary of the channeller. Channellers in this state usually have their eyes closed and are conscious of the surroundings and what is being said. They then, allegedly, allow the source to speak through them by staying in this calm state.

  • Trance Channelling
Trance channeling occurs through deeper meditation in which the channeller’s consciousness leaves their body and enters that of the 'source'. Observers may notice the channeller's voice and mannerisms change when the transition is complete. The trance channeller later reconnects to their physical body and the session is over. The depth of the trance varies as some channelers recollect the entirety of the session while others are conscious of little or none of what transpired once the session is over.

  • Tools you need for the art of channelizing
The channels, depending upon their expertise, utilize and tap the power of many tools to ‘channelize’ their psychic energy. They may use tarot cards, crystal balls, gems or use the method of dream analysis to arrive at the desired results. They use their psychic abilities of clairvoyance and spiritual power to channelize.

  • Care you must take while channeling
You must understand that channeling can take its toll on the physical body. This is because the energetic frequency moving through you is stronger than what the body is accustomed to. If excess voltage is not released through some form of physical exercise, energy pockets can develop and diseases can occur. Special care should be given to the pancreas area and the glands for these are the two most common problem areas for most channelers.

In essence, channeling relays information that the inner self does not have access to. It represents the unknown territories and new beginnings that do not exist yet but are being created. So, it is indeed an art that allows you to become vehicles for the expression of higher wisdom. Attain the art to experience the magic!

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction, relaxation and rejuvenation that also promotes energy healing. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy." Reiki healing involves direct application of life force for the purpose of strengthening a clients’ energy system and is applied on the client for natural healing.

    How the Reiki energy flows
Reiki is very easily learned, very simple to use, is beneficial for all and is a natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It is administered by the practitioner as he places his hands on the recipient with the intention of letting the Reiki energy flow with the aim of bringing healing and health to the recipient. Reiki healing is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

    Transferring the Reiki energy
Traditionally, a set of hand positions for Reiki healing are taught and recommended which give good coverage over the recipients’ entire body. It is not necessary though to follow those positions only as these are merely taught as a starting position from which the practitioner can begin the healing journey. If there is a specific area of concern the practitioner can keep his/her hands right there for as long as necessary. The Reiki energy is smart since the Universe is a very smart place indeed. The energy knows where to concentrate and what to do once it gets there. In some case it is directed by a higher intelligence. The energy manages its own flow within the recipient and draws through the healer exactly that amount of energy which the recipient needs for well being. All this happens without direct conscious intervention by the healer. The healers’ job is to get out of the way, to keep the healing space open, and to watch/listen for commands of what to do next and how.

    Reiki and its magic
Healing through Reiki is returning to a state of alignment with your Higher Self or true way of being. A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance flowing through the recipient’s body and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation, reduction of stress and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

    How you can master Reiki
The ability to use Reiki is not taught in the literal sense but is transferred to the student at a Reiki class during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master. This ability allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.

    Reiki across oceans
In the world of spirit, the concept of time or space does not exist. The world we see around us is only a small slice of all that exists. This small fragment is that which our physical bodies can describe to our consciousness and there is much more in existence than what our bodies can detect in this way. Since there is no time and space to limit spirit, Reiki can operate beyond the limitations of space. An expert Reiki practitioner can bring healing to a recipient regardless of distance.

So what’s stopping you from tapping into that life force that is flowing all around you? Mater the healing power now!
