MANAGING LEFTOVERS

NO BLACKENED BANANAS IN YOUR BIN

• Two tablespoons milk +
• Two tablespoons sugar +
• A pinch of baking powder +
• Half a cup of flour to get a batter of ‘pakora’ consistency
• Mix well and drop spoonfuls into oil, fry till golden brown
•  Mouthwatering Banana Fritters.
•  Have it with Vanilla Ice-cream, and you will wait for the bananas to blacken before you have them next time.

MAKE HERBAL-CHEESE WITH LEFT OVER CHEDDAR!

Do you often find leftover cheese that’s hardened or just plain boring to consume in your fridge? Then this is just the recipe for you o long as the cheese is not spoilt yet (in which case it will stink or have some creepy looking fungus on it)

Spiced Herbal cheese-spread
Ingredients:

• ½ cup grated cheese
• 2 tablespoon chopped garlic
• 1 teaspoon mustard powder
• ½ teaspoon pepper powder
• 2-3 tablespoon double cream
• 1 teaspoon table vinegar
• Salt and sugar to taste

Put all the ingredients in a blender. Blend well to get a smooth texture. This deliciously spiced cheese spread can be consumed with breads or as accompaniments with French fries or pakodas.

CRUMBS FOR FREE WITH LEFTOVER BREAD

Here is a novel way of getting plenty of breadcrumbs at no extra cost! Collect left over bread slices, shred them and store them in a large bowl. Leave the bowl uncovered in the refrigerator till the shredded pieces become hard and crispy. When you have collected enough grind them to a fine powder. Store in an air-tight container and use them whenever required.

WHEN YOU DO NOT NEED THE YOLK

Often recipes require the use of only the white of an egg, leaving you to decide the fate of the yolk! Here is a simple tip to store unbeaten egg yolk to be used later:
Put the yolk in a small cup and cover it with cold water or milk and keep in the refrigerator. Drain off the liquid before using the yolks.

FREE LEFT OVER YOGURT FROM GETTING SOUR

To prevent curd/yogurt from getting extra-sour, pour water over it gently without breaking the curd. Keep the curd immersed in water and throw the water away only before consuming the curd. If it has already turned sour and a yellowish layer has formed on top, remove the layer carefully and gently rinse the curd with water. The sourness will reduce.
