Before A Long Drive

Sound sleep before a journey is absolutely essential. Driving when you are tired is dangerous.
No drive should exceed 12 hours per day.
A driver should avoid overeating as this may cause him to get drowsy.
Avoid drunken driving you are risking far too many lives.
If you feel sleepy, stop driving immediately and get some sleep before resuming journey.
While on long distance travel, it is advisable to have at least ten minutes rest for every two hours of driving in the plains and every one and a half hours in hilly areas.

Steer Your Vacation In the Right Direction!

Embarking on a vacation? And you’re driving?
Well don’t forget to pack a dose of safety and smattering common sense into your baggage too!
Here are a couple of things you can do before you get behind the steering wheel

• Check your car yourself or get it serviced professionally. This includes getting the battery, tires, belts and fluids examined thoroughly.
• Check the oil. If you will be towing a trailer or boat, or driving in the desert, switch to a motor oil with higher viscosity.
• Get a qualified technician to check the air conditioner.
• Pack an emergency kit that includes water, jumper cables, flares, a flashlight, equipment to change a tire, and a first aid kit.
• Get your gas tank filled at night or early in the morning to minimize damage to the ozone layer.
• Get child safety seats installed.
• Use your safety belt at all times.

Are You A Honking Addict

In cities like Mumbai, try not to add to the din when driving, as stress levels and noise pollution are very high. Avoid using the horn unnecessarily. If you want the vehicle in front of you to give you way, a couple of bursts of the horn should do fine. If there’s a traffic jam, your honking isn’t going to help much. Blare the horn only if there is some danger to your or to others on the road. As you cut down on the use of the horn, not only are you doing other drivers a favour, but you’re doing good for yourself too. You will be a calmer and a more relaxed driver and you will be responsible for lowering the noise pollution.
